Last Saturday (5th November) Bryan Averre took part in a cyclocross race. Below is his report. Well done Bryan and many thanks for sending me this report.
On Saturday I took part in round 11 of the Eastern cyclocross league, held in Bury St Edmunds. 340 riders took part in 6 different age categorised races ranging from Under 10’s to Vet 50+ and Women. I took part with 75 other riders in the Vet 40-49 race. The course was flat and dry, predominately on grass with a couple of single track sections amongst trees. As is common in cyclocross there were a few obstacles to contend with. A set of steps to climb and a log across the track which were both rideable, and two sets of boards where it was compulsory to dismount and carry your bike. The course was approximately 1 mile long with the winner being the person who completes the most laps in 40 minutes. I managed to Finnish in 56th place in what was a thoroughly enjoyable race. As always at ECCL races all the riders were friendly and welcoming to newcomers and everything was well organised.
